Herbigram 2009

Merry Christmas! Jesus Is The Reason For The Season!

Paul and Rachel
We enjoyed 2 cruises this year: A Transatlantic in April that visited the entire Iberian Peninsula and in the fall, a Wine Cruise from Vancouver, Canada that travelled down the West Coast of the USA through Washington, Oregon and Sonoma Valley California, Monterrey, Catalina and ended in LA. 2 more cruises are being planned for 2010 another TransAtlantic and an Italian excursion: Rachel and Paul have promised each other that NOW is the time for us to start emptying our “bucket list” while we are able to do so, so that in the battle between the list and us, the list will go first!!
We visited Coronado Island, CA (paradise) and stayed at my brother's beach home February & November. We were in San Antonio every 6 weeks for visit/assists with Rachel's parents. The 2nd Annual Herbig Thanksgiving Reunion was spent at Martha and David's home in Vienna, VA. On December 20 we will be attending the Cracken/Burns Family Christmas Luncheon in San Antonio. December 24-25 will be spent with Paul's mom at her new home in Indianapolis. December 31 will be spent quietly at home watching movies and eating popcorn in our game room. And in Early January, we will be celebrating our oldest son’s 25th Birthday (January 1) with family.
Paul taught Financial Peace University last Winter at our church and will do so again January 2010. We have taken on the challenge of assisting with FUSION, our church’s Middle School Group. A Fun but exhausting experience. Paul is still involved in the local Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development groups and Subs at our local middle and high schools. Paul’s online work continues to grow to six universities and 8-9 courses a term and that doesn't even count the course development work and reviewing. Consulting is always present as opportunities present.
Rachel is involved in the Women's group at church (WOW), Women's bible studies and is a teacher’s aide at a local elementary school with Kindergarten students teaching them to read. She also attends numerous support groups to help her learn about more about aging so as to better care for her parents. A day doesn't go by that she isn't on the phone on behalf of her parents per their invitation trying to make their life a little bit simpler and safer. Plus she is dedicated in writing in her journal every day as she has been since she started June 1984.
Paul’s Mom moved to a garden home at Rosegate Retirement in Indy and she absolutely loves it. We helped her move in March and sold her home in July. She and Buttons, her four footed buddy, are now loyal residents.

Robert and Sara Herbig
Live in Carmel, IN with their black Lab Logan (their baby) and have done so since they were married June 2, 2007. Sara was awarded the The Clarion Nursing Fellowship and is busy, hard at work to get her Nursing degree by this time next year. She acquired her first undergraduate degree in Pre-Law May 2007 from Saint Marys of the Woods in Terre Haute. Robert , after graduating from Rose Hulman in Terre Haute in 2007 in Software Engineering is working at SEP in Carmel, IN minutes from their apartment and is entering the project leadership/management ranks. Challenging but still fun. They are blissfully in love newlyweds, even after going on 3 years!!! Robert went Skiing with the boys in Michigan over Christmas Holidays while Sara stayed with her family.

William
Is attending Indiana University as a freshman. He is majoring in (at last count) Psychology, Japanese, Criminal Justice, and others TBA. Instead of changing majors, he just adds to them. Everything is interesting to William. For fun he is taking Judo and Karate (Don’t mess around with this kid!!). By the time he graduated high school he had earned junior status and by end of this year will be considered Senior status (What comes after Senior Status? Super senior for the next three years?) He is looking toward to studying abroad in Japan this summer 2010 and in 2011 or as an intern for the FBI.

All of the Herbigs Wish You and Your Family The Merriest of Christmas' and A Happy Healthy New Year! Remember Jesus is the Reason for the Season!!!
